During this time we discovered what coffee should be, tried so many new, interesting and occasionally crazy flavours and got excited by the idea of running a café when we returned to Scotland.
Although we didn’t imagine our story would include an old rural Post Office in Aberdeenshire, a second site in Ellon and a coffee roastery, we are so happy it did. You will no doubt see us in the café so say hi and join in the story.
Therefore we source everything as locally as possible, building relationships where possible with farmers who lovingly grow the most amazing vegetables or rear incredible, free range, happy animals.
Unfortunately, the Aberdeenshire climate is not conducive to growing coffee, tea or cocoa beans. Countless hours have been spent researching the whole supply chain from the far away farmers in their fields to the numerous processing stages on the way to your cup.
We enjoy working closely with other, like minded producers who share our values on sustainability. We are proud to work with Eteaket of Edinburgh who provide our tea, and Coco Chocolatier, also in Edinburgh, who provide our hot chocolate.
After travelling the world for three years and after at least the second time of Jonny's sister suggesting that the old shop in Udny would make a great café, we took the plunge. With no heating, water, insulation or any electrics that we would trust, it was a big mission to strip the building back to its bare bones and build it up a cafe but we think it was well worth it!
After 5 years of having
this cafe we were asked by BrewDog if we would like to put a second
café into a building they
had in the heart of Ellon, a town five miles away. We jumped at the
opportunity and began the journey again with another building that
was in a similar condition.
We have loved building
and running our cafés and
look forward to welcoming you!
